Carmel Marrinan

Biography

Carmel Marrinan is a Dublin based abstract expressionist artist whose vibrant, large scale canvases explore the dynamic interplay of colour, texture and space. A former gallerist and interior designer, Carmel returned to her artistic roots and now paints full time from her home studio in Dublin and West Cork.
She draws creative inspiration from her extensive travels, particularly across Italy and West Cork, which imbues her work with rich, layered hues and a joyous sense of movement. Carmel’s signature style combines bold colour palettes with complex layering techniques, resulting in works that spark a strong emotional resonance with the viewer. As she explains:
“We all come from our own individual perspective in how we view and how we create, the magic is in the connection where what we see is what we love… that often immediate connection between the artist’s work and the viewer fascinates me.”
Her art is held in private collections throughout Europe, including France, Sweden and the UK, and she also maintains a strong presence in Irish homes and corporate interiors. She has completed notable corporate commissions, such as for the award winning Newmarket Yards development in Dublin 8 via Reddy Architecture.
Critics and collectors frequently highlight Carmel’s work for its ability to transform interior spaces. One client praised: “your paintings are the best things I’ve ever bought… they’ve transformed my house into a wonderful space,” while another shared how her pieces “put me in great humour” during Zoom meetings.
In recent years, the Irish Independent featured her bright, dynamic canvases as part of a lifestyle spotlight, noting how she “creates joyous abstract art, full of invigorating colours and contrasts…”
