Exhibition Review: “Dublin Through the Eyes of Its Artists”

On Thursday, 10th April 2025, The Oriel Gallery welcomed friends, artists, and guests to the opening of “Dublin Through the Eyes of Its Artists.” The event was a great success, drawing together the city’s artistic community and offering visitors a unique perspective on Dublin through the work of eight outstanding painters.

The evening began with a warm welcome from the gallery team, followed by a thoughtful and encouraging address from the Lord Mayor of Dublin, Emma Blain. We were honoured to have the Lord Mayor officially open the exhibition, marking the occasion with kind words about the vital role of art in Dublin’s cultural life. Her presence set the tone for an evening of genuine appreciation for the city and its artists.

The exhibition featuredworks by Gerard Byrne, Alan Somers, David Coyne, Ruth McGuirk, Victor Richardson, Liam O’Neill, Anthony Murphy, and Harry Durdin Robertson. Each artist brought their own distinct style and vision, capturing Dublin’s energy, architecture, and character in ways that resonated with everyone present. The collection as a whole reflects the diversity and richness of the city, from familiar streets and historic landmarks to quieter corners and moments of everyday life.

Guests enjoyed the opportunity to meet several of the exhibiting artists in person, engaging in conversations about their creative process and inspiration. Many visitors commented on the breadth of talent on display and the sense of connection that the artworks fostered among the audience. It was clear that the exhibition sparked both memories and new perspectives, reminding us all of the enduring power of art to capture the spirit of a place.

The evening was also a welcome chance for Dublin’s wider community of art lovers, collectors, and supporters to come together after a challenging few years. There was a genuine sense of camaraderie and shared purpose as old friends reunited and new connections were made.

We are deeply grateful to everyone who helped make this event possible. Special thanks go to the Lord Mayor for her support and to all of the artists for their dedication and creativity. Our sincere appreciation also goes to the many hands behind the scenes who assisted with the preparation and running of the evening.

Above all, thank you to everyone who attended. Your enthusiasm and engagement are what bring exhibitions like this to life and ensure that Dublin’s artistic heritage continues to thrive.

For those who could not join us on the night, we are pleased to share a gallery of photographs from the event below. We hope these images give a sense of the atmosphere and the quality of work on display.

The exhibition “Dublin Through the Eyes of Its Artists” runs throughout the month. All are welcome to visit The Oriel Gallery to experience this celebration of Dublin’s creativity and community.
